Police reunite Sri Lankan other with Daughter in Pakistan

In a heartwarming act, the Khyber Police in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, reunited a Sri Lankan mother with her 25-year-old daughter and ensured custody was handed over, honoring the daughter’s choice.

The Sri Lankan woman had married Agha Jan, a resident of Khyber, while both were in a Gulf country.

Following their separation, the husband returned to Pakistan with their daughter.

Concerned for her daughter’s welfare, the mother traveled to Pakistan and sought help from the Khyber Police.

Acting on the directive of the District Police Officer (DPO) of Khyber, a jirga was convened to mediate the issue.

The daughter was given the freedom to choose whom she wished to stay with, and she expressed her desire to be with her mother. Custody was subsequently granted.

Before departing Pakistan, the mother praised the Khyber Police in a video message, commending their fairness, hospitality, and dedication in reuniting her with her daughter.

DPO Khyber emphasized the police’s commitment to upholding individual rights, stating:
“The law guarantees fundamental rights, and it is our duty to ensure they are respected. This case was resolved in accordance with the Constitution and law, prioritizing the daughter’s wish to live with her mother.”
