Sri Lanka Police have rejected recent claims made by former MP Udaya Gammanpila regarding the treatment of former State Intelligence Service Director Suresh Sallay while in custody.

Gammanpila alleged that Sallay had begun a hunger strike and was being subjected to inhumane treatment while detained by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Police, however, strongly denied the allegations, stating that Sallay is being treated in accordance with standard legal procedures applicable to any suspect and has neither received special privileges nor faced discrimination or neglect.

Sallay is currently being held under detention orders as part of investigations into the Easter Sunday attacks.

The Police further emphasized that the matter is currently before the courts and warned that unverified or sensational claims relating to an ongoing judicial process should be treated with caution and restraint.
