PM Meets new task force on figital education transformation for grades 6–13

Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya has stressed the importance of introducing digital learning systems while ensuring fair distribution of human and physical resources across all schools.

She made these remarks on 20th of June during a meeting with the newly appointed Cabinet Task Force tasked with overseeing the Digital Education Transformation for Grades 6–13.

The discussion focused on the need for a comprehensive digital transformation in the education sector, addressing key challenges, and developing relevant policies.

Dr. Amarasuriya highlighted the urgent need to address the shortage of over 42,000 teachers in national and provincial schools. As a short-term solution, she emphasized implementing digital learning systems within six months to help bridge the learning gap using available resources.

The Prime Minister noted that one of the Task Force’s core goals is to ensure the equitable distribution of facilities to all schools, including those serving differently abled students. She also underscored the importance of a strong, multi-sectoral team to effectively achieve these objectives.

At the event, appointment letters were presented to members of the Task Force. Secretary to the Prime Minister, Mr. Pradeep Saputhanthri, was appointed as the Chairperson.

The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Vocational Education Nalin Hewage, Deputy Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr. Madhura Seneviratne, Secretary to the Ministry of Education Mr. Nalaka Kaluwawa, Secretary to the Ministry of Digital Economy Mr. Varuna Dhanapala, Task Force members, and other key officials.
