
The Cabinet Sub-Committee appointed to ensure the orderly functioning of the public service met for the second time under the patronage of Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya.
The meeting, held at the Presidential Secretariat on 24 March, focused on immediate measures to ensure the uninterrupted delivery of government services and to address challenges faced by public servants.
Special attention was given to maintaining continuous operations in key sectors, including public administration, provincial councils, local government, health, education, and justice. It was decided to conduct examinations as scheduled and ensure the uninterrupted supply of essential medicines to hospitals.
The committee also discussed challenges in passenger transport and the railway system, along with future measures to improve services and ensure the smooth transportation of essential goods.
In addition, emphasis was placed on introducing digital service systems to facilitate remote work and improve efficiency, with these initiatives to be supervised by the Ministry of Digital Economy.
Officials were further instructed to review existing energy management practices across all ministries and departments and implement necessary policy changes to improve efficiency.
Several senior officials, including government secretaries and heads of key institutions, were present at the meeting.
