A special discussion was held in Parliament of Sri Lanka between Education Minister and Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya and representatives of the Association of Medical Specialists to address issues faced when admitting the children of transferred doctors to schools.
The meeting, held on Thursday and attended by Health Minister Nalinda Jayatissa, focused on the practical difficulties encountered under existing procedures implemented for doctors’ transfers. Specialists highlighted challenges in securing school admissions for their children due to administrative processes.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Health, both sides engaged in extensive discussions on the need for improved coordination between the health and education sectors to address these concerns in a systematic manner.
It was also agreed that the Ministry of Education should review the current admission process and work closely with the Ministry of Health to establish a more practical and efficient system.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has already launched a special programme aimed at resolving issues faced by government doctors in enrolling their children in schools, with the goal of minimising delays and obstacles caused by transfers and administrative procedures.
