PM Harini says government places high importance on ties with China

Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya said Sri Lanka and China share a long history of friendship, with bilateral cooperation yielding fruitful results.

Emphasizing that the Sri Lankan government attaches great importance to its ties with China, she noted that Sri Lanka looks forward to strengthening exchanges at all levels and deepening cooperation in areas such as investment, ports, infrastructure, agriculture, the textile industry, poverty reduction, and the digital economy.

She made these remarks during a meeting with Chinese Premier Li Qiang in Beijing, where she is attending the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women.

Premier Li highlighted the deep traditional friendship between China and Sri Lanka and expressed China’s readiness to work together to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and build a community with a shared future.

He added that China seeks to expand two-way trade and investment, and enhance collaboration in green development, digital economy, modern agriculture, and the marine economy under the Belt and Road Initiative.

Li also said China is willing to import more high-quality products from Sri Lanka and will continue encouraging Chinese companies to invest in the country.
