
Sri Lankan Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya and her delegation returned to the country this morning (23rd) following a successful four-day official visit to Davos, Switzerland, where they attended the 2026 Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum.
During the summit held from January 19 to 22, the Prime Minister engaged in extensive discussions with global heads of state, leaders of international financial institutions, and business executives on strengthening Sri Lanka’s future economic trajectory.
She was accompanied by Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando, along with a high-level delegation.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, a key highlight of the visit was bilateral talks with International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva and Asian Development Bank (ADB) President Masatsugu Asakawa on securing continued support to ensure Sri Lanka’s financial stability.
The Prime Minister also met with Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and UNDP Administrator Alexander De Croo, further strengthening international relations and reinforcing global confidence in Sri Lanka.
On the global policy front, Dr. Amarasuriya delivered a special address at the World Women Davos Agenda 2026 and participated in high-level discussions on employment challenges in emerging markets and global skills development.
She also joined a top-level dialogue at the Global Tourism Forum, where she outlined Sri Lanka’s vision for the future of its tourism industry.
To expand investment opportunities, the Prime Minister held discussions with executives from international firms including AP Moller–Maersk and members of the Swiss business community, and undertook observation visits to several vocational training institutions in Switzerland.
In addition, she met with Sri Lankan entrepreneurs based in Switzerland, encouraging their engagement and contributions toward national development.
The Prime Minister’s Office stated that the visit marked a significant step forward in international cooperation, supporting Sri Lanka’s long-term development agenda.
