Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya emphasized that a country’s development relies heavily on the productive contribution of its citizens.
She made these remarks at the inauguration ceremony of the National Productivity Awards Competition 2025/2026, held at Temple Trees.
The Prime Minister launched the competition for the Education Sector, while Minister Sunil Handunnetti inaugurated the Public Sector category, and Dr. Indra Pradhan Singhavithana introduced the Production and Services Sector category.
Dr. Amarasuriya noted that the awards ceremony had been paused in recent years due to the economic crisis, which she attributed to past leadership failures.
She urged the public to embrace innovation, stating, “A nation that does not innovate cannot rise in the world.”
Reviving the productivity awards aligns with the government’s broader vision to create a “Clean Sri Lanka” and a more prosperous future.
The Prime Minister stressed that productivity is not just about hard work but achieving greater results through efficiency, planning, and responsibility.
She also highlighted the importance of maintaining clean and organized environments in public institutions to improve efficiency.
Increasing productivity, she said, is essential to attracting investments, ensuring sustainable development, and raising the standard of living.
The event was attended by several high-ranking officials, including ministers, secretaries, and key government administrators.
