,Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya on Tuesday (26) officially opened a newly equipped High Definition (HD) television studio at the University of Vocational Technology (UoVT) in Ratmalana to enhance practical training opportunities for students.
The new studio, established as part of the university’s media complex, is equipped with modern technology to support hands-on learning for students pursuing media and technology-related studies.
During the event, several new affiliated centres were also inaugurated, including a broadcasting studio with facilities for a web radio channel, an artificial intelligence (AI) research laboratory, and a centre dedicated to gender, equity and equality.
The Prime Minister also launched the university’s “UoVT Greening Policy,” aimed at ensuring future construction and development activities are carried out based on environmentally sustainable concepts.
The initiative seeks to transform the university into a carbon-neutral institution by 2030 while encouraging vocational students to explore employment opportunities in green-sector industries.
In addition, laptops were distributed to schools affected by recent floods and natural disasters to support the continuation of educational activities for students.
Deputy Minister of Vocational Education Nalin Hewage, Education Ministry Secretary Nalaka Kaluwewa, and UoVT Vice Chancellor K.M.G. Prasanna Premadasa were among those who attended the event.
