
Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya attended the grand finale of the President’s Trophy inter-school knockout rugby tournament held on 18th of May at the Royal College Sports Complex in Colombo.
The final match featured a thrilling face-off between Isipathana College, Colombo and Trinity College, Kandy.
Isipathana College, already the record-holder for the most President’s Trophy titles, secured yet another victory in this year’s championship.
Isipathana reached the final after a hard-fought semi-final win against Royal College, Colombo, with a score of 24–17.
This marked Isipathana’s 29th appearance in a President’s Trophy final, underlining their dominance in school rugby.
The event was graced by several distinguished guests including Amal Edirisuriya, Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Education, and Shemal Fernando, Director General of Sports.
Also present were Trinity College Principal Araliya Jayasundara and Isipathana College Principal Oshan Panditharathna.
Representatives from the tournament’s main sponsor, Dialog Axiata PLC, including Group Executive Supun Weerasinghe and Group Manager Harsha Samaranayake, also attended.
The Chairman, Secretary, and officials of the Schools Rugby Association were among the key figures at the event.
A large number of rugby enthusiasts gathered to witness the exciting finale and celebrate the spirit of school-level rugby in Sri Lanka.
