A discussion was held yesterday (21st) at the Parliamentary Complex to review proposals for promoting school sports and resolving existing issues, with the participation of officials from the Ministries of Education and Sports and Youth Affairs, and Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, who also serves as Minister of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education.

The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration between the two ministries to address challenges such as licensing issues faced by sports associations, difficulties encountered by sports coaches, and the development of sports schools.

Prime Minister Amarasuriya stressed the importance of providing equal opportunities for all students to engage in sports and highlighted the need to cultivate a school sports culture that prioritizes students’ physical and mental well-being over competitiveness.

She further emphasized the importance of holding regular discussions between the two ministries to continue resolving issues and noted that attention was given to establishing a computer-based application system for registering students in sports competitions, the Office of the Prime Minister stated.
