Plane crash in Washington DC halts airport operations

A plane has crashed into the Potomac River in Washington DC, with an unknown number of casualties reported.

DC Police confirmed the incident and stated that a multi-agency search and rescue operation is currently underway.

NBC reported that the plane collided with a helicopter midair, though authorities have not officially confirmed this.

However, police have denied that one of their helicopters was involved.

Fireboats have been deployed to assist with rescue efforts. Meanwhile, the crash has led to the suspension of all takeoffs and landings at Ronald Reagan International Airport.

In a statement on X, the airport confirmed the response to the incident, stating, “Emergency personnel are responding to an aircraft incident on the airfield.
