A Sri Lankan passenger has been arrested at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) after authorities discovered 2,505 grams of ‘Kush’ cannabis, valued at around Rs. 25 million, in his possession.
The suspect, a 33-year-old Colombo resident working as a photographer, had arrived from Bangkok, according to reports.
He was detained while attempting to pass through the ‘Green Channel’ at the arrivals terminal, which is reserved for passengers with nothing to declare.
Officials from the Sri Lanka Customs Narcotics Control Division searched his luggage on suspicion and found the narcotics concealed inside packets of dry fruits, from which the fruits had been removed.
The seized drugs and the suspect are expected to be handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) at BIA for further investigations.
