Renovation work at the Pettah Central Bus Stand is progressing rapidly and is expected to be completed within the first two weeks of April, according to the Ministry of Transport, Highways & Urban Development.
The project is being carried out under the Ministry’s supervision as part of the national “Clean Sri Lanka” initiative, with labour support provided by the Sri Lanka Air Force.
The two-terminal bus stand is undergoing renovations at a cost of Rs. 424 million.
Under the project plan, the ground floor will serve as the main bus terminal, the second floor will house rest facilities for bus drivers and conductors, and the third floor will be dedicated to administrative and operational services.
Authorities also stated that a new information centre will be established within the premises to provide the public with details on various modes of transport, including buses, trains, and flights.
