Petrol prices plunge as global oil falls

Petrol prices are expected to drop further across Australia in the lead-up to the Easter and Anzac Day long weekends, as global oil markets reel from U.S.

President Donald Trump’s ongoing tariff war. According to new analysis by the NRMA, the Australian regional oil benchmark, Tapis crude, has been in “free fall” since the tariffs were introduced.

Over the past week alone, oil prices have dropped by US$10 per barrel, while the Terminal Gate Price of regular unleaded petrol has fallen by eight cents to 157.6 cents per litre. The NRMA predicts this downward trend will continue across all major capital cities, with Sydney and Perth seeing the most significant price drops.

In Sydney, petrol prices have dipped to 168.5 cents per litre and are expected to fall even further. Data from the NRMA App shows that 73% of Sydney petrol stations are currently offering fuel for under 170 cents per litre.

As of Tuesday morning, some of the city’s lowest petrol prices were recorded at 156.5 cents per litre in Earlwood and Campsie, 157.7 cents in Lewisham and Canterbury, and 162.9 cents in Woolloomooloo. However, prices remain much higher in suburbs like Concord and Randwick, where fuel costs reached 207.9 cents per litre.
