A Perth man has defied incredible odds by winning a second Division One lottery prize, 10 years after his first major win.

The man, in his 60s, previously won $3 million as part of a 10-member syndicate that claimed a $30 million OZ Lotto jackpot in 2015.

His latest stroke of luck came in the Saturday Lotto Superdraw, where he secured a $1.8 million prize and said the win would allow him to retire earlier than planned with his wife.

The winner said he played numbers based on his family’s birthdays and had continued using different combinations of those numbers for several years.

Lottery officials said winning Division One twice is extremely rare, with the odds estimated at around one in 66.3 trillion.

The man purchased his winning ticket from a Perth newsagency and only discovered his win after checking the results online, later surprising his wife with the news.
