People ready to quit smoking

Across Australia, around 8.8 percent of adults smoke on a daily basis.

However, in remote communities, the smoking rate is significantly higher, reaching 46 percent.

Tjuntjuntjara, located 1,300 kilometers east of Perth, is one such community with the highest number of smokers.

The steep rise in cigarette prices has led many residents of Tjuntjuntjara to consider quitting smoking.

Federal government data shows that smoking is responsible for 37 percent of all deaths in Australia.

Alarmingly, half of those deaths occur among people aged 45 and over.
