The Sri Lankan government has announced that a pension system for foreign workers is already in place.
Speaking in Parliament yesterday, Minister of Foreign Affairs Vijitha Herath stated that further measures will be taken to strengthen the system in the future.
He also noted that the Social Security Fund of the Ministry of Social Empowerment and the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to support this initiative.
Accordingly, efforts will be made to introduce the pension system to foreign workers.
Additionally, Minister Herath stated that steps will also be taken to extend the proposed pension system to those employed in the tourism sector.
