Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa told Parliament today that providing pensions to Members of Parliament is necessary to discourage corruption.
He stated that many countries offer pensions to MPs as a safeguard against corrupt practices and expressed his support for a similar system. “I am in favour of providing pensions to MPs,” he said.
Premadasa also noted that the Government has reduced the pensions of public servants, raising concerns about the broader approach to retirement benefits.
