Millions of Australians will see a boost in their pay from tomorrow, as the Fair Work Commission’s 3.5% increase to the national minimum wage comes into effect.
This change will raise the minimum wage from $24.10 to $24.94 per hour, or by over $30 a week, benefiting approximately three million workers.
Fair Work Commission President Justice Adam Hatcher said the decision was aimed at reversing the real wage decline experienced since 2021 due to high inflation.
While praised by unions as a significant real wage gain, some economists cautioned that it could sustain inflationary pressures, urging businesses to focus on improving productivity.
