Sri Lanka’s airports, including Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Jaffna International Airport (JIA), and Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA), recorded over 8.8 million passenger movements in 2024, according to Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Limited (AASL).

This growth highlights the critical role of Sri Lanka’s aviation infrastructure in boosting connectivity, tourism, and trade.
The expansion of airline services and tourism strategies significantly contributed to the rise in passenger traffic.
BIA hosted over 30 airlines, including global carriers like Emirates, Qatar Airways, and Singapore Airlines, along with the national carrier, SriLankan Airlines.
Several airlines increased flight frequencies to Sri Lanka, and others, such as Thai Airways and Cathay Pacific, resumed operations.
Jetstar Asia and Red Wings Airlines launched new flights, while Centrum Air and SkyUp initiated seasonal services to MRIA in December 2024.
AASL continues to work closely with stakeholders to ensure safety, efficiency, and a seamless travel experience for all passengers.
