Parliament passes electricity amendment bill with revisions

The Electricity Amendment Bill was passed in Parliament today after its third reading, which was approved without a vote.

Earlier, the second reading of the Bill was passed with a majority of 96 votes, with 121 Members of Parliament voting in favour and 25 against.

The Bill includes key provisions to restructure the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) by unbundling it into multiple independent companies. These amendments are part of a broader effort to reform and streamline Sri Lanka’s electricity sector, with the goal of improving efficiency, transparency, and service delivery.
