Pakistan announces squad for upcoming Asia cup

Salman Ali Agha has been appointed to lead Pakistan in the upcoming UAE tri-series and the Asia Cup, which will also be held in the UAE.

Pakistan’s 17-member squad features key players such as Fakhar Zaman—who has recovered from a hamstring injury sustained in the Caribbean—along with Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, and Faheem Ashraf. Young talents including Saim Ayub, Hasan Nawaz, and Mohammad Haris are also set to showcase their potential in the upcoming tournaments.

Notably, senior players Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan have not been included in the Asia Cup squad.

Pakistan will first participate in a tri-series with the UAE and Afghanistan from 29 August to 7 September. The team will then compete in the Asia Cup, scheduled from September 9 to 28, where they have been placed in Group A alongside Oman, India, and the UAE.

The 17-member squad includes: Salman Ali Agha (c), Abrar Ahmed, Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Hasan Nawaz, Hussain Talat, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Haris (wk), Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Waseem Jnr, Sahibzada Farhan, Saim Ayub, Salman Mirza, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Sufyan Moqim.

Pakistan has participated in the Asia Cup 15 times, winning the title twice—first under Moin Khan’s captaincy in 2000, and later under Misbah-ul-Haq’s leadership in 2012.
