Two P-plate drivers have been caught allegedly driving at extreme speeds on Melbourne’s Monash Freeway in Glen Waverley.
Nunawading Highway Patrol officers spotted both drivers travelling outbound on the Monash within just two hours of each other, late on Saturday night and early Sunday morning.
In the first incident, a 19-year-old from Clyde North was detected driving a Mazda utility at 160 kilometres per hour in a 100 kilometre-per-hour zone.
The teenager had four passengers on board and was allegedly seen repeatedly cutting through heavy traffic without indicating.
His vehicle was impounded for 30 days at a cost of 1,120 dollars.
He is expected to be charged on summons with exceeding the speed limit, driving at a dangerous speed and manner, along with other traffic-related offences.
In the second incident, police were left stunned after a 19-year-old P-plate driver from Pakenham was allegedly caught driving a Ford Falcon at 200 kilometres per hour — double the posted speed limit.
The driver was also allegedly weaving through traffic and reportedly told police he was doing it ‘for fun’.
The Ford was impounded at a cost of 1,046 dollars, and the driver is expected to face charges for exceeding the speed limit and dangerous driving.
Police have reminded motorists that extreme speeding and dangerous driving can put everyone on the road at serious risk.
