
The National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) received a total of 414 complaints related to child sexual abuse during the first nine months of 2025, including 192 cases involving serious sexual exploitation.
From January 1 to September 30, the NCPA recorded 7,677 complaints overall. Of these, 6,296 fell under the Child Protection Authority Act, while 1,381 complaints did not. September saw the highest number of complaints, totaling 1,176.
Under the Child Protection Authority Act, 49 complaints involved sexual harassment of women, 111 related to child labor, and 203 concerned abductions. Among complaints not covered by the Act, 62 involved teenage pregnancies.
Additionally, the NCPA received 102 complaints of cyber violence against children, 38 related to domestic violence, 13 concerning suicide attempts, and one regarding kidnapping.
Drug-related issues accounted for 83 complaints, including 27 involving the use of children for drug trafficking and three involving the sale of drugs to children under 16. Deputy Inspector of Police for the Kalutara Division, Jayantha Padmini Weerasuriya, noted a concerning trend of involving children in drug use while speaking at an event in Kalutara.
