
The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) has reported that a total of 3,469 Sri Lankan youth have departed for employment opportunities in South Korea in 2025.
According to the SLBFE, a group of 77 qualified individuals, including two women, left for jobs in South Korea’s manufacturing sector on 11th of November .
These opportunities are offered under the E-9 visa category, established through a bilateral agreement between the SLBFE and the Human Resources Development Service of Korea. The E-9 visa allows Sri Lankans to work in manufacturing, construction, fisheries, and agriculture.
Candidates are selected through a transparent online process, which includes computer-based examinations. The SLBFE emphasizes that the selection process is free from any external influence.
This year, 836 individuals have departed for jobs in the fisheries sector, 2,512 for manufacturing, 28 for construction, 32 for the service sector, and 2 for agriculture.
Successful candidates are allowed to stay in South Korea for 4 years and 10 months, after which they may be eligible to return under specified conditions.
