Over 30,000 tourists visit Sri Lanka in first week of May

The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) has announced that 33,910 tourists arrived in the country during the first week of May.

Of this, 10,620 visitors were from India, making up 31.3% of the total arrivals.

Other notable source countries included the United Kingdom with 2,676 tourists, China with 2,445, France with 1,573, and Australia with 1,538.

With these new arrivals, the total number of tourists to Sri Lanka in 2025 has reached 930,794.

India remains the top contributor with 167,679 visitors so far this year.

Russia has sent 108,340 tourists while the United Kingdom accounts for 89,729.

In April alone, Sri Lanka welcomed 174,608 foreign visitors.

This marks a 17.3% increase compared to April 2024.

The SLTDA attributes this growth to improved global travel conditions and targeted promotional campaigns.

Officials expect the upward trend in tourist arrivals to continue throughout the year.
