Over 23,000 Dengue cases reported nationwide in 2025 surge

Sri Lanka has reported a total of 23,744 Dengue cases within the first five months of 2025, according to data from the National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU).

The number of cases has shown a concerning upward trend, with 3,766 reported in March, 5,166 in April, and 6,042 in May.

Colombo, Gampaha, Ratnapura, and Batticaloa districts have recorded the highest number of infections.

So far this year, 13 deaths have been linked to Dengue, highlighting the severity of the outbreak.

Health authorities have expressed concern that the situation could deteriorate with the arrival of the monsoon season.

The monsoon rains are expected to increase mosquito breeding grounds, potentially driving a further surge in infections.

Public health officials are urging communities to eliminate stagnant water and maintain hygiene to control mosquito populations.

The rising number of cases underscores the urgent need for intensified vector control and awareness campaigns.

Hospitals and clinics in high-risk areas are on alert to manage the growing number of Dengue patients.

The NDCU continues to monitor the situation closely and has called for public cooperation in preventing further spread.
