A total of 1,870 people have died in 1,757 fatal road accidents between 1st of January and 4th of September this year, police reported.

The alarming statistic was revealed by Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Traffic, Indika Hapugoda, who noted that an average of seven to eight people are killed daily in road accidents.
DIG Hapugoda emphasized that all road users—including drivers, cyclists, pedestrians, and passengers—must strictly follow traffic laws, obey road signs, and exercise self-discipline to reduce the number of accidents.
