Oracle backs Sri Lanka’s digital transformation

Oracle Corporation has expressed its commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s digitalization efforts through its Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).

The announcement was made at the World Governments Summit in the UAE on February 11, following a meeting between Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Oracle’s Executive Vice Chairman, Mike Sicilia. Their discussions centered on accelerating Sri Lanka’s digital transformation, enhancing fintech services, and deploying cloud infrastructure to improve economic and governance efficiency.

President Dissanayake invited Oracle to establish a sovereign Oracle Cloud region in Sri Lanka to host government applications, e-governance platforms, and a national data system, ensuring data sovereignty and regulatory compliance. He also proposed setting up a Digital Transformation Hub in Colombo Port City, positioning it as South Asia’s AI and Cloud Hub. To advance this initiative, he requested Oracle to send a team to Sri Lanka.

In response, Sicilia expressed strong interest in the proposal, emphasizing that Sri Lanka’s strategic location and commitment to innovation make it an ideal choice for Oracle’s South Asian AI and Cloud Hub. He noted that this move would drive public-private partnerships and attract high-tech investments.

President Dissanayake reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s dedication to leveraging new technologies for governance efficiency, economic growth, and global competitiveness, extending an open invitation for Oracle to play a key role in the country’s digital transformation.
