Former MP Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka said the opposition’s decision to sue the government for failing to prevent the recent disaster is absurd, adding that the outcome would have been no different even if the previous administration had been in power.
Speaking to the media, he noted that similar floods had occurred in the past, and regardless of who governed, the end result remained unchanged.
Fonseka explained that the rainfall and flooding this time were far more severe, leading to greater destruction.
He stressed that no government can perform miracles, as Sri Lanka has limited resources, equipment, and manpower.
“The government must do its best with what it has. If anyone expects more, that is simply not possible. We are a poor country,” he said.
