President Anura Kumara Dissanayake accused opposition parties—including the SJB, UNP, SLPP, and certain independents—of forming an alliance to protect their past corruption, fraud, and criminal acts.
Speaking to the Sri Lankan community in Germany, he said the opposition’s main aim is to sabotage investigations launched by the National People’s Power (NPP) government against corrupt individuals.
He cited the Kuliyapitiya local council as an example, where despite the NPP having a clear majority, the SLPP secured the chairmanship with support from the SJB, UNP, and independents.
The President claimed this unusual political alliance is not based on shared ideology but is a desperate move to escape accountability.
He pointed out that for the first time in Sri Lanka, rival parties are coming together not to serve the public, but to defend their own interests and political survival.
“Whether it’s Sajith Premadasa or Namal Rajapaksa, their unity is not for the country, but to block the path of justice,” he said.
He reaffirmed that the NPP will not allow any interference with ongoing investigations and is committed to delivering on the public mandate to uphold justice and good governance.
“This is the first time in our country’s history where the people’s aspirations and the government’s goals are fully aligned,” he added, pledging to build a just, corruption-free nation.
