The Opposition has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Justice expressing concerns over remarks allegedly made by the President regarding a pending court ruling, according to Opposition convener and former Minister G. L. Peiris.

Speaking at a media briefing in Colombo today, Peiris claimed that the President, during his May Day rally speech in Maharagama, had referred to the outcome of a court case before the official verdict had been delivered.
He stressed that only the presiding judge is aware of a judgment before it is formally pronounced and argued that revealing such information to a third party would be improper.
Peiris further stated that any undue interference in judicial proceedings constitutes a serious offence punishable under the law.
According to him, several opposition party leaders and representatives jointly decided to submit the memorandum requesting the Chief Justice to give due attention to the matter.
