Opposition MP Dayasiri Jayasekera stated today that the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) and the Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) will not be able to function after 6th of January 2026, without an Auditor General.
He explained that, according to Articles 148 and 152 of the Constitution, COPE and COPA cannot operate without the presence of an Auditor General.
“An independent Auditor General should be appointed soon,” he added.
