The dawn of Christmas 2025 arrives while the nation still carries the painful memories of the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah, which severely affected Sri Lanka. The cyclone claimed lives, destroyed property and livelihoods, and shattered the hopes of many, leaving behind deep sorrow and the tears of those who lost everything.
Christmas, celebrated with deep reverence to mark the birth of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is a time when hope is born amid destruction. It signifies the beginning of an era where goodness triumphs over evil, and even in the darkest moments, a light of hope emerges.
In the aftermath of Cyclone Ditwah, Sri Lanka must rise again through unity, mutual cooperation, and the humanitarian spirit shown by its people. Across race, religion, and language, citizens came together with compassion and outstretched hands, a unity witnessed and felt by all. This spirit must now be transformed into the nation’s greatest strength.
At this critical moment, the country needs not divisive politics, but a collective effort to build a just and compassionate society—one that responds to the suffering of its people and works steadily to secure the nation’s future. While challenges remain, it is our shared responsibility to learn from this tragedy and build a state that protects the vulnerable and ensures no one is left alone in times of disaster.
Christmas 2025 reminds us not only of what has been lost, but also of what remains within us—our compassion for one another, our willingness to stand together, and our faith in a hopeful tomorrow. With this belief, I am confident that Sri Lanka can rise again as a strong, just, and humane nation.
On this Christmas Day, I pray for peace, prosperity, harmony, unity, and renewed hope for Christian devotees and for all citizens of Sri Lanka and the world.
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas!
