A chaotic session unfolded in Parliament of Sri Lanka, marked by heated exchanges between government ministers and opposition members, following allegations by SJB MP Ajith P. Perera that Justice Minister Harshana Nanayakkara made an offensive gesture—showing him the ‘middle finger’ during the Oral Questions round.
The incident occurred when Minister Nanayakkara requested two weeks to provide answers to Perera’s questions, with the opposition claiming the gesture was made in response to Perera’s protest.
While Perera stated he would not mimic the gesture, MP Dayasiri Jayasekara, who also protested, requested permission from the Speaker to do so. However, his Point of Order was rejected by the Speaker.
