OpenAI launches cheapest ChatGPT plan in India at $4.6 to boost growth

OpenAI on Tuesday launched ChatGPT Go, a new India-only subscription plan priced at 399 rupees (US$4.57) per month, making it the company’s most affordable offering yet as it seeks to expand its presence in its second-largest market.

Global companies often introduce cheaper subscription plans in India to cater to the price-sensitive population of nearly one billion internet users.

The ChatGPT Go plan allows users to send up to ten times more messages and generate ten times more images compared to the free version, while also providing faster response times. Higher-tier subscription plans offer even greater message limits.

The Microsoft-backed startup said ChatGPT Go is designed for Indians seeking greater access to ChatGPT’s advanced capabilities at a more affordable price.

For comparison, the top-tier ChatGPT Pro costs 19,900 rupees per month in India, while the mid-range ChatGPT Plus plan is priced at 1,999 rupees per month.

Earlier this year, CEO Sam Altman met with India’s IT minister to discuss plans for creating a low-cost AI ecosystem.

India is currently OpenAI’s second-largest market by user base, after the United States, and Altman recently noted that it may soon become the largest.
