Online games linked to child gambling

A recent report has found that children are increasingly becoming addicted to popular video games due to harmful design tactics.

The study, conducted by CPRC and Monash University, highlights the use of manipulative features in games to attract young players.

Researchers revealed that gambling-like features and promises of real-world money are being used to lure children into prolonged gaming.

Erin Turner, CEO of CPRC, expressed concern over the growing trend of children spending more time and money on video games.

One major issue is the exposure of children to gambling elements, such as paying to open mystery boxes for random rewards.

Unlike physical gaming centers, online video games lack proper legal regulation to protect young users.

The report calls for urgent action to address the risks children face in the online gaming environment.
