Olympic Hope: Rumesh Tharanga gets Sports Ministry backing

Sri Lanka’s javelin star Rumesh Tharanga, who recently set a new meet record of 89.28 metres at the Kip Keino Classic in Kenya, met Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage on Monday together with his coach.

According to the Sports Ministry, Rumesh Tharanga and his coach expressed gratitude to the Minister for the financial and technical support provided through the “Mission Olympic” programme.

Rumesh said that the assistance has been a strong source of encouragement for athletes striving for international success.

Minister Gamage praised Rumesh’s outstanding performance and discussed preparations for upcoming international competitions.

Recognising his potential to win an Olympic medal for Sri Lanka, the Minister pledged full financial support, overseas training opportunities, and improved facilities.

He stated that Rumesh Tharanga represents Olympic hope for the country and that it is the responsibility of the Ministry to provide maximum support to both the athlete and his coach.
