A recall has been issued for certain Google Pixel 6a smartphones due to concerns that the devices could overheat and cause fires or burn injuries.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) stated that there have been incidents resulting in serious burn injuries.
The affected devices were sold between July 2022 and April 2024 by retailers such as JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, and Officeworks.
Only Pixel 6a units with the model number G1AZG are impacted by this issue.
A firmware update released on July 8 introduces improved battery management to help prevent overheating.
Owners are advised to check the Google Pixel support page to see if their device is affected.
Impacted users may be eligible for a repair reimbursement, cash payment, or a discount on future Google Store purchases.
Devices not affected by the issue will remain unaffected by the firmware update.
