A warning has been issued to older Australians to receive their COVID-19 vaccine ahead of the upcoming winter season.
Health officials are urging people aged 75 and over, especially those living in aged care facilities or at high risk of severe illness or death, to get vaccinated as soon as possible.
Australia’s Chief Medical Officer emphasized the importance of increasing vaccination rates in aged care settings to protect the most vulnerable.
Current data shows that only 45.8% of care residents aged 75 and above have received a COVID-19 vaccine in the past six months.
However, the National Immunisation Guidelines recommend that older Australians receive COVID-19 booster shots every six months to maintain protection.
