National People’s Power (NPP) MP Shantha Pathmakumara yesterday accused the police and the Opposition of spreading false information about him, claiming that such actions violate his parliamentary privileges.
The MP specifically named Opposition MP Ajith P. Perera, alleging that he had disseminated misleading information.
“Ajith P. Perera, who calls himself a counsel, has spread false information about me through the media. I request the Speaker to summon him and others responsible before the Privileges Committee,” Pathmakumara said.
The allegations against MP Pathmakumara relate to an illegal plantation, locally referred to as a ‘mal wagawa.’ However, he has repeatedly denied these claims over the past few weeks.
