No fuel shortage expected amid Iran-Israel tensions: CPC chairman

Amid rising concerns over the Iran-Israel conflict’s impact on fuel supplies, CPC Chairman Janaka Rajakaruna assured the public that Sri Lanka has secured enough fuel stocks to last the next two months.

Speaking at a media briefing, Rajakaruna said fuel deliveries had been ordered and confirmed well in advance, ensuring no supply disruptions due to the conflict.

He clarified that most of Sri Lanka’s 92 octane petrol imports come from Malaysia, Singapore, Oman, and India — countries not directly affected by the ongoing tensions. Diesel stocks are also sourced from outside the conflict zone.

He further noted that other distributors, including Lanka IOC, Sinopec, and RM Park, have guaranteed uninterrupted fuel distribution during this period.

Rajakaruna emphasized that crude oil imports remain stable and that Sri Lankans should not fear shortages. He also stated that CPC has placed orders sufficient to meet demand until the end of the year.

Addressing speculation about fuel price hikes, he urged the public not to rely on social media rumors, saying global market fluctuations typically stabilize quickly.

Given CPC’s recent bulk purchases, he added that there is little chance of a price increase in the coming month and that prices may even remain unchanged.
