GALENBINDUNUWEWA – Police have recovered a cache of ammunition from the Getalawa Canal bed, exposed as water levels dropped due to ongoing dry weather.
Acting on public information, officers discovered 5,038 live T56 cartridges during a search operation.
No arrests have been made so far, and those responsible for concealing the ammunition have not yet been identified.
Police said further search operations are underway to determine if more ammunition is hidden in the area.
