New Zealand reaffirms pledge to boost financial assistance for SL

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of New Zealand, Winston Peters, met with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake yesterday (26th) at the Presidential Secretariat during his official visit to Sri Lanka.

Peters conveyed greetings from the New Zealand government and people, and congratulated President Dissanayake on his victories in both the Presidential and General Elections, as stated by the President’s Media Division (PMD).

He reaffirmed the strong friendship between the two nations and welcomed the recent re-establishment of diplomatic relations.

The Deputy Prime Minister commended the progress made by the new administration in achieving political stability, economic recovery, and social development. He praised President Dissanayake’s leadership in guiding Sri Lanka on a positive path.

Recognizing the country’s current direction as a promising foundation for sustainable growth, Peters announced New Zealand’s continued commitment to increasing financial support for Sri Lanka.

President Dissanayake noted that the visit marked a new chapter in bilateral relations and shared details on Sri Lanka’s stabilization efforts following the elections. He emphasized peace-building, reconciliation, and national unity as central to his government’s long-term development strategy.

The two leaders also discussed expanding cooperation in key sectors such as agriculture, education, and tourism.

Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Economic Development Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando and Senior Additional Secretary to the President Roshan Gamage also attended the meeting.
