A high incidence of hospitalization among young children in Australia due to respiratory diseases has been reported.
In response, Queensland has launched a new program to provide free vaccinations for newborns against these diseases.
New South Wales has also submitted proposals for a similar immunization initiative for newborns.
The Therapeutic Goods Administration has approved a vaccine called Beyfortus for use in young children to combat respiratory diseases.
Meanwhile, Western Australia has become the first region to begin vaccinating infants.
The vaccine is recommended for children under 8 months of age, and approximately 70,000 infants are expected to be eligible for the vaccine during this period.
