A new drug, Vabysmo, has been introduced for older Australians suffering from Retinal Vein Occlusion (RVO), a common eye disease.
The drug will be available under the federal government’s drug treatment scheme to help improve patients’ eyesight.
While Vabysmo cannot completely cure the disease, studies have shown it to be more effective than other treatments currently available.
RVO is more common in people over 60 years old, and an estimated 20,000 Australians are currently affected.
This new treatment offers hope for improved vision and better management of the condition.
