Special regulations will soon be enforced for establishments catering to tourists in the Arugam Bay area, according to Acting Director of the Police Tourism Division, ASP Prabath Widanagama.

He stated that authorities will pay special attention to foreigners entering Sri Lanka on tourist visas but engaging in business activities, which is a violation of visa conditions.
The announcement follows public concern sparked by a viral video shared by a tourist, which showed signboards in Arugam Bay predominantly written in Hebrew, with minimal use of Sinhala or Tamil.
In response, the government has assured that the safety and well-being of all tourists—including Israeli visitors—will be prioritised throughout their stay in the country.
