New rate relief for Victorians to ease cost of living crisis

The Australian government is expanding subsidies to help households reduce their energy bills.

This year, $144 million will be allocated to build on existing programs that have been in place for six years.

Federal Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen stated that suburban residents could collectively save millions on their energy costs.

The ACT, Western Australia, Queensland, Victoria, and Tasmania are expected to receive the most significant electricity bill relief.

The initiative also aims to encourage a shift from gas to electric appliances, making a major impact on the cost-of-living crisis.

Reducing gas consumption will lead to substantial national savings and create opportunities for increased solar power generation at the state level.
