The Cabinet has approved the establishment of a regional office of the Department of Immigration and Emigration in Vavuniya, Northern Province.
Cabinet Spokesman and Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, stated that residents of Jaffna, Kilinochchi, and Mullaitivu currently face long travel times to access immigration services in Vavuniya.
Due to the high number of passport applications from the Northern Province, it was proposed at the Jaffna District Coordination Committee meeting, chaired by the President on 3rd of January 2025, to establish an additional regional office in Jaffna.
This initiative aims to provide faster and more convenient services to the people in the region.
